North Palos School District 117 is pleased to announce Jessica (Roubik) Mycyk as assistant principal at Oak Ridge School in Palos Hills beginning with the 2022-23 school year. Jess assumes the role of assistant principal after spending the last two years as Team Leader at Sorrick School.
"I am thrilled to have this new opportunity to challenge myself and to work again with (new Oak Ridge principal) Stephanie (Johnson)," Mrs. Mycyk said. "I'm going to miss (Sorrick Principal) Natalie (Profita) and the teachers and staff here, but I'm also looking forward to a new challenge of supporting Stephanie and the teachers at Oak Ridge."
She said she looks forward to reuniting with Mrs. Johnson with whom she co-taught 3rd grade math for a year when they were both teachers at Glen Oaks School.
Mrs. Mycyk said she "admires Stephanie's ability to remain calm as well as how amazing she is at collaborating and being a team player."
Jess grew up in Palos Hills where she attended Dorn, Oak Ridge and Conrady Junior High schools before attending Stagg High School. She then earned her BA at Illinois State and her MA at Olivet Nazarene University.
Jess joined the district in 2013-14 as a special education co-teacher at Glen Oaks where she served until being named a Team Leader at Sorrick School in 2020-21.
She also got married in 2020 to her husband Nick, in a wedding that initially had 200 family and friends invited, to one that ended up having 13 family members attend due to pandemic restrictions.
Jess said she loved school from the time she was a little girl.
"I am so appreciative of all the opportunities this district has given me as a student and as a teacher and now as an assistant principal," she said. "I'm going to miss everyone at Sorrick, but I'll be just down the road."
Jess is the youngest of three siblings that include sister Kristine, and brother Bobby. Her parents are Charlene and Robert.
Jess and Nick live in Naperville with their 2-year-old dog Phoebe. The couple enjoy long weekends in Michigan and Wisconsin and are avid White Sox, Bears and Blackhawks fans.
