Under the leadership of Principal Jolanta Dziatkowiec, Oak Ridge has successfully renewed its status as a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC). This prestigious designation requires a rigorous re-application process every three years to verify continued excellence through data. In January, Mrs. Dziatkowiec received the exciting news that Oak Ridge is one of only 600 schools and districts across the U.S. and Canada to earn this distinction.
A PLC is a school or district where educators recognize that student success is driven by the ongoing, job-embedded learning of the adults who serve them. This framework is built upon three "Big Ideas":
- A Focus on Learning: Ensuring all students reach high levels of achievement.
- A Collaborative Culture: Working together interdependently to achieve common goals.
- A Results Orientation: Using data to assess and improve student outcomes.
According to the Champions of PLC at Work®, schools selected for this honor demonstrate a "sustained commitment to helping all students achieve at high levels" and a willingness to "alter the structure and culture of the organization" to fulfill that commitment. We congratulate Oak Ridge on achieving this significant milestone in their continuous PLC journey.
Professional Learning Communities are one of the keys to our success and an integral part of our Strategic Plan. All the awards we receive in NPD117 connect back to the opportunities we provide our students, and in turn, their successes. Congratulations to the staff, students, families, and the entire Oak Ridge learning community. We are incredibly proud!
